Ballet

The emphasis of my ballet class is to teach and pass on the legacy of ballet; this includes its personal and professional elements.  Classes are geared to guide students to explore their physicality and athleticism.  Alongside building technique I find it important to include matters of discipline, studio etiquette, artistic style and musicality.  The goal is to nurture dancers to achieve a level of proficiency and diversity that meets the requirements of today’s dance artist.

GYROKINESIS® Methodology

Gyrokinesis exercises allow one to work on the entire body through seven natural elements of spinal movement: forward, backward, left side, right side, left twist, right twist and circular; as well as joint articulation.  This approach systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating movements.  Fluidity is the key.  Postures are not held for long periods of time. Instead, postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of breath, making exercises appear and feel more like a dance and swimming than like traditional yoga.

Choreography

My choreographic process involves working in partnership with the dance artist.  The intention is to create works that challenge the body and mind of dancers.  At the core rests principles for honesty of movement, recognizing beauty in the seemingly awkward, and discipline along with freedom.  The aim is to make each piece as distinctive as the talented dancer(s).

Choreographic Mentor

This workshop is for choreographers interested in receiving feedback on their work.  It is intended to include discussion on the choreographic process and provide an opportunity to practice the art of speaking about dance.  Choreography can range from a movement study to larger works.  Beginners are welcome.
